Texas plans to increase Bible content in schools

The excerpt below is from The Guardian, 5/29.

____________

Texas curriculum overhaul would increase biblical content in elementary schools

Two million Texas kids could see new curriculum emphasizing Bible stories to instruct them in the ‘American cultural experience.'

With the potential to reach over 2 million K-5 students in the nation’s second-largest state, the update marks a big step in a movement embraced by conservatives to root young people’s education in what they consider traditional values. It is also bound to raise questions about the potential for religious indoctrination in a state that has been a battleground for such disputes. Last year, for example, Texas passed a law allowing chaplains to work as school counselors.

....

The release comes four days after the state Republican party passed a platform calling on the legislature and the state board of education to require instruction on the Bible.

....

State officials say the changes are meant to familiarize students with stories that are central to American culture.
_____________

So Bible stories are "central to American culture"?

The Guardian story also reports that the state rejected suggestions about inserting material from other religions.

I don't know if there is a paywall but here's a link to the article:

Right. They need to learn about sin, the little buggers. And the hell that awaits them if they don't play by the rules (most of which are ambiguous or impossible to follow). And how the bears will tear you apart if you make fun of a bald guy. And how if you talk back to your folks, you die. Gotta keep those kiddies in line.

That's too bad IMO. I like Texas but more religion is not the answer IMO. But the southern style of more corporal discipline and manners of the youngins is better for them than modern day restrictions that can't control the more difficult ones IMO. More religion in schools is unfortunately pushing their future life and understandings of reality farther away from the truth IMO, which is not good.

All of this is so much eww. Like it's so gross....yet they'll blame the LGBT+ community for "indoctrination" but these fake ass Christians are the ones doing the indoctrination! Gods this is so disgusting! I have no word! it's also a bit fascist too... especially since probably not all the kids in those schools are fuckin Christian! WOW!!! WTF!?

Maybe the courts can sort it out like they're doing in Florida.
