I suppose you're baiting me for a hooker joke tho?

Nah, I'll pass. Thx tho!

lol I don't know if my mind is just dirty, or if I've been seeing too much sexual innuendo around here lately, but I couldn't believe it that I saw the potential joke before you did!

So what are you gonna do when you eventually have to work at a job at 8 or 9 am like the rest of us schlubs?

Specifically seek out work that will allow me to work the graveyard shift. Duh.

Could have said you ran out of viagra......GONZ9729CustomImage1539775.gif

Never needed viagra in my life and still don't - I just don't get any interest from the opposite sex. Anymore, I'm fine with that. Granted I had limited exposure but I found sex to be overrated.

Good luck with that one because I worked it decades ago and hated every minute of the year I was on it. I was lucky if I got 3 - 4 hours sleep and I'm an 8 hr sleep person. I walked around like a zombie for most of the week. On weekends, when off from the shift, I had to crash but then Monday night it began all over again. I did find that the people I supervised on the shift had been on it for years and loved it - they were able to sleep during the day with no problem. I hope you're the same if you get a night job.

During my long period of unemployment I eventually drifted into a nocturnal lifestyle. I was having no luck in the job search so I just didn't have any reason to care.... why get up early when I didn't have to? When I finally got a job, I spent about a week transitioning back to a day schedule... it was absolutely brutal and adversely affected my performance early-on. I’m over that hump now but don't make that same mistake. It's easy to feel like you're alert and ready to perform when you really aren't. If you're doing a menial labor job you can get away with being tired, but if you have to use your head all day not sleeping enough (or too much) will fuck you up.

The point I’m trying to make is that most of the world operates on a daylight schedule and it takes a certain type to work graveyard so make sure that its absolutely what you want. It's going to make doing certain types of business harder (you will be asleep when banks, etc. are open) and it will cut into your social life unless all your friends are night people too.

@Will02 -- I've been nocturnal since, well... as far back as I can remember. I'm just naturally more awake and aware and functional at night. (I'm typically up by, oh, two in the PM, at the latest.)

It IS annoying because SO many things operate on a daylight schedule, but it's better than being sleep-deprived and cranky. (Not to mention being completely unable to process or retain information acquired during that time period.)

Some people just function better as nocturnal creatures. My biggest problem with it while I was doing night shift was that my sleeping schedule was just so erratic that it fucked me up. Some days I'd get to bed around 7-8am; some days it wouldn't be till 11 or 12. Some days I'd sleep till 4, some till 8. If kids outside decided to have a rousing game of "Who Can Shriek the Longest and Loudest," or the city decided to tear up the road right outside my bedroom window, there just wasn't much I could do about it because it was happening during the day. It was just too hard for me to get a stable sleeping schedule with a night shift, so I finally went back to mornings. But lots of people need those kinds of hours, so it's good that the world can accommodate that better than it could, say, 50 years ago :) And I'm grateful for it, because it means if I need to ask a pharmacist a question or buy cold remedies or call about a technical issue at just about any hour of the night, I can.

Wow, the American system sounds so inflexible and like such an easy way to fuck people over.

More like the system has a cost basis that was affordable for many until the mid 1980s and then the costs started inflating way higher than inflation (same with our medical system). Right now there are a rather large percentage of people graduating college with no real job prospects and shit loads of debt. The problem with this is the secondary school system (high schools) pushes kids to go to college. But you are looking over 60k at the best and more than 80 on avergae for tuition and living expenses. You can also go to a trade shool or community college for something with job potential (nursing, med lab tech, electrical technician) and be in little or no debt and actually be marketable for industry. The US has become a joke, our educational system is the worst of all the industrialized nations, our medical system is not that highly rated, our food supply is a joke, most people are on some med and the dollar is not doing well at all.

That is what

My son is doing. I think he got some helpful counsel at the local community college. He is Going for medical lab tech . He is doing well in the classes. We live in an area with plenty of clinics, lab places, hospitals. So I think he will get a job. He wanted to get into radiology originally and he took the prerequisite classes but the waiting list to get into the actual program was a couple of years. He hasn't that kind of time. He is a young dad with a child. So lab tech is a start for him. He is very fortunate that he has me and husband and home and his fiance's home who are helping him out. He works too. I know that not every young student out there has that support system.

He is a musician and creative at heart but that won't put food on the table for his kid. But he plays in his spare time which is becoming less and is opening his son up to music. I love it. He has the balance of science and the arts.

The med lab tech certification/degree almost guarentees a job. So much for christian authors of the past 30 yrs saying the reason the US is best is due to it being a christian nation. We are decaying so quickly and China has risen beyond anyone's expectation.

Our freedoms are disappearing so fast. I went to a party yesterday and stopped to get some beer at a gas station. They wanted my drivers license (I am 51). Then they scanned the magnetic stripe. I do not want records of every purchase I make. China is getting much much more freedom, but the govt knows when it is getting out of hand. Here , it is blind faith, we BELIEVE we have freedoms, although evidence says no. We BELIEVE we have the highest standard of living, although the evidence says we are not even in the top 10.

Inexpensive labor costs and a fantastic infrastructure must have nothing to do with it.
