1. to delay the impending punishment or sentence of (a condemned person).

 

IF "reprieve" means to delay the punishment; what if the reprieve is overturned? That is what i meant - no more "reprieve" means no (delayed) punishment - you are free to enter the pearly gates (or hell, like me).
